MWL appeals to police violence and dismissals trying to stop the strike
Company act in flagrant disrespect for the strike laws
MWL, a GMH group company, used violence against the metalworkers on this Wednesday (12), the seventh day of strike. Military policemen attacked the leaders of Metalworkers Union of São José dos Campos and MWL employees, in front of the factory, in an attempt to force the end of the strike. The company is also sending letters of resignations, which is a flagrant disrespect for the strike laws.
The aggressions happened early in the morning, around 7 a.m. Soldiers ripped off the union banners and used pepper spray against the people that where in front of the factory's gates. There was even aggressions using batons.
Since the beginning of the strike the last Thursday (6), the company has been using a strong private security apparatus, also using dogs, to intimidate the workers.
The workers mobilization is against the company refusal to negotiate the PLR (Participation in profits and results) and try to impose abusive goals.
In addition to police repression, the workers are facing the MWL's authoritarianism and blackmail. Since the beginning of strike, the MWL has already sent 140 letters of resignation to the strikers.
This company action violates the Brazilian strike's law (Law 7.783/88), which prohibits the dismissal of workers during the strike period.
