Embraer announces a PDV (Voluntary Resignation Program) at its plants in Brazil

Company wants to save US$ 200 millions with the measure

Embraer announced this Monday (8th of August), the start of a Voluntary Resignation Program (PDV) at its plants in Brazil. The company has not yet given details on the measure, but the Metalworkers Union of São José dos Campos (affiliated to the CSP-Conlutas) will question it at a meeting already scheduled for this Wednesday (10th of August), at 15:00h.

According to a statement made by supervisors to the workers, Embraer wants to save US$ 200 million with the PDV and other measures already announced. This is exactly the same amount accrued by Embraer for the payment of a possible fine regarding the case of bribes under investigation by the Federal Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro and denounced in 2010 by the Department of Justice of the US government.

The US$ 200 million provision is registered in the balance sheet of the 2nd quarter of this year, published by Embraer.

Plea Bargaining
A testimony given in April by the manager of Embraer Defense Area, Albert Philip Close to the Federal Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro reveals that the company's upper echelons would have authorized the payment of bribes to an authority from the Dominican Republic in order to guarantee the sale of eight Super Tucano airplanes to that country.

The Metalworkers Union of São José dos Campos emphasizes that it does not support the PDV or any other measure that penalizes the workers.

"Embraer cannot transfer the costs of this corruption case to the workers’ shoulders. It is necessary that the complaint is thoroughly investigated and if the crime is proven, those responsible for it must be punished and the losses must be reimbursed by those responsible. Once again we see the workers paying for instances of corruption in both private and public companies", said the vice president - on leave – of the Metalworkers' Union, Herbert Claros da Silva.
